                     FIRE SAFETY HOUSE
                 COMING SUMMER 2010

The Fire Safety House became a reality this year after five years of planning and fund raising.  Various local businesses have generously donated toward this purchase.  Also, a special thank you is due to ABATE, a local motorcycle group which organizes the annual Bikin’ For Burns fund raising event.  Their contribution is greatly appreciated. Now, with a 2009 FEMA Grant award, Davison Area students and residents will receive hands-on education experience in the new mobile classroom.

Education is the best tool to eliminate the cause of most fires and the monetary and human loss associated with them.  The DRAFD will be able to provide year-long fire safety education, over and above our current lecture and video presentation program.  The Fire Safety House will allow instructors to explain fire safety-related topics as well as give hands-on training in what participants are learning.  Children will practice “Stop, Drop & Roll”, rolling out of bed and staying close to the floor at the sound of a smoke alarm, and making actual phone calls to a 911 operator.

Fire Safety House

We anticipate the Fire Safety House will be up and running sometime during the summer of 2010.  It will also be available for use by neighboring fire departments in Genesee and Lapeer counties.  All of us at the Fire Department are excited about this opportunity to provide quality fire safety education to the Davison Community!
