The function of the Fire Department is to save lives, property and make a better and safer community. They have been in operation for over 110 years covering Davison Township, Richfield Township and The City of Davison. Which is 72 square miles, with approximately 30,000 residents, and responding to over 450 calls per year, including 42 medical responses. The Fire Department has an ISO rating of "5" for hydrant areas, and "9" for non-hydrant areas, with 1 Ladder truck, 1 Pumper/Tanker, 1 Midi Pumper, 1 Rescue Squad, 1 Grass truck, 2 Engine/Pumpers. In the year 2000 there were 40 structure fires, 23 extrications, along with numerous other calls. There are weekly training meetings on Wednesdays, one in the morning from 10 am to 12 noon and one at night from 7 pm to 9 pm. The Fire Department also has an additional 200 hours training in various categories. Each employee has to carry a current Medical First Responder card which consists of 132 hours of medical training.
